Traditional tactile paving helps visually impaired people move and stop, but it doesn’t tell them what is around them. Sightwalks expanded this universal system by creating a new tactile vocabulary built directly into the sidewalk. By counting different numbers of raised lines with their canes, visually impaired people can identify what is in front of them, such as a restaurant, bank, grocery store, or drugstore, allowing them to navigate the city with greater independence. Developed together with visually impaired people, the open-source system was first implemented across Miraflores, Peru, and designed to be easily replicated anywhere in the world.
This project won multiple Lions, including a Grand Prix, Gold, Silver, and Bronze Lions.
My role: Executive Creative Director. *This was a project by Circus Grey Peru, where I had the honor of contributing to the development of the case film.
